Single-Vehicle Wreck in Irondale Kills Leeds Man

One person was killed in a single-vehicle wreck in Irondale over the weekend. The fatal incident occurred on the evening of Friday, June 4. It was reported to the authorities at around 6 p.m.

According to the details shared by the Irondale Police, the victim who was killed in the wreck in Irondale was traveling westbound along U.S. Highway 78 at the time. His vehicle was identified as an Audi. As the Audi reached the 5500 block of Highway 78, the Audi driver apparently lost control of the vehicle for unknown reasons.

The vehicle then veered to a side and went into the eastbound lanes of the road before leaving the roadway. It finally collided with a roadside tree at a high rate of speed.

The driver of the Audi was the sole occupant of the vehicle when the crash occurred. He suffered critical injuries in the incident. It isn’t clear if he was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision. Once the first responders and paramedics arrived on the scene of the crash, attempts were made to save the driver. However, these attempts failed and the injured victim succumbed to his injuries.

Irondale Police and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office responded to the incident. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash at around 6:22 p.m.

The identity of the victim was initially withheld. It was later confirmed by the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office. The victim was identified as James Tyra Jay Harris Jr. He lived in Leeds and was aged 53. He was a graduate of Vestavia Hills High School.
