Scrushy Property Sold to Briarwood Presbyterian

A 19-acre parcel of property in Vestavia Hills has been sold for nearly $2 million as part of an effort to satisfy a $2.8 billion court judgment against former HealthSouth CEO, Richard Scrushy. The land and buildings comprising the property are just down a hill from another property was once the Scrushy family residence. That 10-bedroom mansionremains on the market for $2.4 million.

Briarwood Presbyterian Church purchased the 19 acres. The church has one of the largest congregations in Jefferson County and sits adjacent to the Scrushy property.

Hare Wynn’s John Haley, lead counsel for the plaintiffs, says this is just the next step in an on-going effort to recover the money owed to HealthSouth shareholders by Richard Scrushy. “Scrushy was the CEO of the fraud and we are going to continue to do everything we can to make sure he repays this debt to the people who lost so much because of his incredible greed.”
