Hare Wynn Partner, Shay Samples, has been selected as co-counsel for the trials of the bell-weather Chantix cases to be tried in the US District Court for the Northern District of Alabama. Judge Inge Johnson is presiding over the multi-district litigation cases filed by Plaintiffs and Plaintiff’s families from all over the United States. Judge Johnson was selected to preside over these cases which were filed against Pfizer, the manufacturer of Chantix, a smoking cessation drug. Pfizer and the FDA issued a series of warnings culminating with a black box warning in July, 2009 that Chantix may cause severe psychiatric side effects, including completed suicides. Unfortunately, this black box warning came after numerous Chantix users had suffered severe psychiatric side effects, including completed suicides allegedly causally connected to Chantix use.
