Jim Pratt to Serve as Alabama State Bar President Elect

Jim Pratt has been elected as the Alabama State Bar’s President Elect Designate. After a year’s service in that role, he will become the President of the Alabama State Bar in 2011. Jim Pratt will become the third partner in Hare, Wynn, Newell & Newton’s century of legal service to head the Alabama State Bar. Francis Hare served as president from 1949 to 1950 and Alva Caine held the position from 1989 to 1990.

Jim Pratt attended Cumberland School of Law, and began practicing law in 1978.

Pratt has been very active in both the Birmingham and State Bars, serving as a member of the Executive Committee for the Birmingham Bar, and on numerous committees and is currently in his second term as a Bar Commissioner for the Alabama State Bar. He has also served two terms on one of the State Bar’s Disciplinary Panels. He is also an Atticus Finch Member of the Alabama Bar Foundation, a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation, and a Member of the American Law Institute.

He is a Past President of the Alabama Trial Lawyers Association, and a Past Chairman of the Products Liability Section of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, as well as a Past Member of the Executive Committee of the American Trial Lawyers. He has been selected for membership in the Inner Circle of Advocates (a group limited to 100 attorneys nationwide), is a Member of the American Board of Trial Advocates, a Fellow of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers and the International Society of Barristers.

Jim Pratt is an AV rated lawyer by Martindale-Hubbell, has been selected for inclusion in the “Best Lawyers in America” since 1991, designated by Super Lawyers as one of the top lawyers in Alabama, and designated by Law Dragon as one of the top 500 plaintiffs lawyers in America.
