Hare Wynn Expands Recalled Hip Implant Cases to Include Stryker
Hare Wynn has been heavily involved in the metal-on-metal hip litigation representing individuals in numerous states against Johnson & Johnson regarding defective DePuy ASR metal-on-metal hip implants. Hare Wynn is now expanding its metal-on-metal hip representation to include cases against Stryker Orthopaedics for injuries and damages caused by its recalled Rejuvenate and AGB II metal-on-metal modular neck stem systems.
Stryker Orthopaedics recently announced a recall of two of its hip implant modular neck stem systems. The voluntary recall has been issued for Stryker’s Rejuvenate Modular and ABG II modular-neck stem devices. Both of these products use a metal-on-metal neck stem connecting the replacement femoral head to the stem. As the system wears, the metal components can cause fretting and corrosion, which may lead to tissue damage. The recalled Stryker devices are likely to have been implanted from the latter half of 2009 through 2012.
Fretting and corrosion can cause cobalt and chromium particles to be released into surrounding tissue and blood stream. The metal particles can cause surrounding tissue to be infected or destroyed causing significant pain and permanent injury. While the long term effects of these chemicals in the human body have not been fully studied, research is beginning to link these chemicals to neurological problems, vision loss and potentially cancers.
Hare Wynn has the systems in place to test clients’ blood levels for cobalt and chromium to help determine if a problem exists. Through our experience in the DePuy ASR hip litigation, we are familiar with surgeons in multiple states that can perform the revision surgery necessary to remove the recalled hip components and replace them with another device. Hare Wynn has the protocols and systems in place to preserve, store and test our client’s explanted hip device, surrounding tissue and any fluids necessary to build a strong case.
Hare Wynn is accepting referrals of DePuy ASR, Wright Conserve, Biomet and Stryker Rejuvenate and ABG II metal-on-metal hip component cases from attorneys across the Southeast and the United States. If you would like us to look at a potential case for you, please call us at 800-568-5330 and ask for Don McKenna. There is no charge for the consultation or client blood testing.
