Hare Wynn Donates $10,000 to Children's of Alabama for Car Seat Program

Hare, Wynn, Newell and Newton recently donated $10,000 to Children’s of Alabama to provide child passenger safety seats to eligible families treated at Children’s.

Children’s Patient Health and Safety Information Department operates the hospital’s car seat program to provide a car seat for patients who do not have a seat available for the ride home after discharge.

“We are delighted to partner with Children’s on such an important initiative,” said Hare Wynn Managing Partner, Leon Ashford. “No parent should ever have to worry about how to get their child home from the hospital –whether they are traveling five minutes or five hours, we want to ensure that they arrive safely.”

According to Alabama SAFE Kids, car seats reduce the risk of injury by 71 to 82 percent. Recently 72 percent of nearly 3,500 observed car seats and booster seats were misused in a way that could be expected to increase a child’s risk of injury during a crash.

According to Marilyn Prier, Children’s director of Patient Health and Safety Information, the hospital provides more than 230 car seats a year to its families.

“We are very thankful for this gift,” she said. “Our staff at Children’s provides world-class care for patients so it only makes sense that we do our best to make sure the children we treat are in the appropriate car seat to travel home.”
